![]() ![]() There is no random variation of damage in this game. How much damage can I do? No, really, do some kamikaze runs just to see how hard you can hit with your abilities so you can take the guesswork out of whether you'll leave the enemy with 4 HP.Do I need a healer? Do I have enough MP to last through this fight? Note where I'm functionally limited (can only use Selflessness 7 times, can only Midheal 8 times, can only Kaswoosh 4 times, etc.).How do I want the enemy to move? I can predict their responses to my positioning because the AI is fairly easy to manipulate. Are status effects going to help me here?.What are their weaknesses? Do I have units that meet both resistance and weakness criteria? Are they leveled? Can I level them in time?.Which resistances do I need? Am I using a cover tank who can negate my need for resistance?.Important questions I try to ask myself when building a team: Youtube guides are great, but I agree they should inspire you on how to think about the fight, not just be a move-by-move guide. I imagine this will not be the case for Arena, which will be smaller, with much less variety of monsters, so capitalizing on Brilliant hits might be easier.Even if you have the same units, your AGI values might be slightly off due to equipment rolls, and your monsters end up tripping over each other. FOr the story, I imagine it's not a bad assumption, as monsters are widely varied, and space constraints of what you can actually hit are important. I might need to watch how often I'm able to capitalize on frizz bonuses with DL in the future to get a better feel for this. The real question is, how often, in practice, can you capitalize on brilliant damage? If it's 2/3 of the time, potency and brilliance bonuses of equal % will cause an equal average increase in damage. For DL staff, this is generally not the case. Below, x is the base damage (doesn't matter as it cancels out everywhere), b is the bonus for brilliance, and p is the bonus for potencyīrilliant bonus: (2/7)*.5*x + (3/7)*x + (2/7)*x*2*(1+b) The brilliance will trigger in 2/7 hits, but potency will affect all hits (2/7 at half power, 2/7 at double power, and 3/7 at 1x power)įor the effects of brilliance to be at least as good as potency, we would want the average damage caused to be at least as high. as a first pass though, I'll assume equal rarity). Certainly among the small subset of meta mons, some will be more common. If they are randomly distributed (I haven't checked if some weaknesses are more common. TL DR: Brilliance effects are worth it only if they are twice as strong as potency.Įvery monster is weak to 2 types, out of 7. ![]() My intuition is that brilliance is pretty bad relative to potency, but wanted to run some numbers to check. On seeing this post about a very rare roll for the DL staff ( ), I was thinking about how good brilliance is vs. ![]()
